“While working with FMA, what I kept coming back to was the importance of the entire archive. When you think of Kentucky, you don't automatically think LGBT, even though we know a history exists for it. To work with an archive dedicated to Kentucky's rich LGBT history was an honor! As far as internships go, it was also really nice to be in an environment where my professional opinion was taken seriously. When I worked with FMA, even for that brief time, I felt like a real part of the team. Plus, since it's so hard to find an internship with flexible hours that's also compensated, FMA really was a no brainer!”

“Interning with FMA happened at such a crucial time in my life. I was halfway through grad school, in the midst of the pandemic, and had just come out as gay about a year or two before. The intimate connection that I felt to the individual stories represented through the archive was deeply impactful. Since I was getting my MFA in Curatorial Studies, I was so excited to take these incredible objects and stories that I was finding and turning them into public exhibitions for everyone to see!”
